Women Empowerment:

Woman as a symbol of strong motherhood of nation should be aware and alert. To give much needed impetus to the holistic development of women, we need to empower women economically and socially. Despite some basic changes in the status and role of the women in the society, no society treats its women as well as its men. Regardless of their inherent skills and talents, women don’t get  the same level of opportunities as men.

And even if a woman is educated, there is no hope for a job. Most jobs in which they are engaged are in agricultural or domestic fields which do not require formal education. The core reason that ethnic minorities are holding back and stuck by the cultural barrier set in the old days and not improving with the society. This belief made thousands of women uneducated and unemployed which wasted their talents and potential as well. Women development is the key for sustainable development. Empowering women is nothing but making them independent in all aspects from mind, thoughts, rights, decisions etc by leaving all the social and family limitations.

In the past few years we have seen a rampant increase in crime against women in the form of physical, sexual and emotional abuse. These horrifying incidents leave deep scars that young girls and women are unable to cope with. They lose their self-esteem and confidence.

Helpage believes that the real meaning of empowering women is to make them well educated and leave them free to take their own decisions of their lives. A woman is the full circle. Within her is the strength to create, nurture & transform.

Efforts towards the prevention includes:

  • Identifying the root causes of the problem.
  • Addressing these underlying problems by interacting with the victim and others collectively where the importance of the rights and damaging effects of the situation are discussed.
  • Community orientation and sensitisation programs are being conducted on a regular basis.
  • Empowering victim or victims with the knowledge to demand for proper implementation of the schemes, security and provisions.
  • Create a safe space and talk about issues like gender equality, women’s right or health, counsel them , help gain their lost self-esteem and make them self-reliant.
  • Help them grow by providing them with job-relevant skills that employers actually       demand, or that they can use in launching their own business such as information , knowledge, technology,   training and managerial techniques.
  • Provide training and opportunities of self employment to improve their social and economic status.
  • Teach girls and women to maintain hygiene during their periods and pregnancy for the better future.
